Bubbles collecting under ice as it freezes. I'm guessing that both bubble formation and the amount of ice that freezes fluctuates every day/night, trapping different sized bubbles. The bubbles must rise from the same spot on the bottom too. Claire found these in 8" of clear ice that formed during the last cold snap on a nearby lake. I was awestruck and giddily rolled around on the ice taking pictures. Pretty and cool, eh?
